INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background
Music is an aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or combination of sounds that received by every human based on the different story, culture, and location of each human. Although, a song is a brief composition written or adapted for singing. There are some kinds of music such as classic, traditional, religion (gambus or kasidah), blues, jazz, country, and rock music. In today’s society, wherever there is radio, television, cinema, or the internet, we will be exposed to music. Music is all around us. Music is a complex language that can convey any emotion or conjure a response from any audience. At the same time, music is simple and universally understandable. Children are natural language learners. Expose students to language in a natural way using music, and the most of students in the world listen to Western music especially English lyric music. So, this study try to explain the effect of listening English lyric music especially pop music to the students. This study also try to explain the students ability related with speaking ability fluently and accuracy of the pronunciations.

1.2. Statements of the problem
The problem in this study elaborated into following questions:
1.    Are teachers creative in teaching method using English lyric song as subject matter source for teaching listening skill at SMPN 2 Praya Central Lombok?
2.    Does English lyric song affects the students of SMPN 2 Praya ability in listening skill?
3.    Do the students able to remind and use the vocabulary in the song in their daily activity?
1.3. Purpose of the Study
This study is aimed at determining:
1.    Teachers’ creativity in teaching method using English lyric song as the subject matter source for teaching reading skill at SMPN 2 Praya Central Lombok.
2.    Students’ able to improve their ability in listening skill using English lyric song.
3.    Students’ able to remind and use the vocabulary in the English lyric song in their daily life.
           
1.4. Scope of the study
To avoid wider description of this study, the writer decides to limit study to cover the following scope:
1.    The study is conducted to investigate how far the creativity of teachers’ method in teaching listening skill using English lyric song as instructional tool/material.
2.    The object of this study is the English teachers and the students of SMPN 2 Praya Central Lombok.
3.    The English lyric song to be investigated is limited on Music Pop which is used by the teacher whether old song or update song.

1.5. Significance of the study
This study is expected to have theoretical and practical significances as follows:
1.    Theoretical significance
It is hoped that the result of this study will give good contribution for those who are getting involved in the implementation of instructional method and in instructional materials.
2.    Practical significance
The result of this study is expected to:
a.    Help English teachers conducts English course at the same level of any SMP or any other related schools.
b.    Find out the best method in teaching listening skill.
Motivate and activate the students in studying English better.
